The Puente de la Mujer in the old harbor is an architectural and technical masterpiece. 50 years of zero maintenance was required for the bearings supporting the pivoting bridge section.
This is no problem for INA large spherical plain bearings with bearing bore diameters up to one meter.
Experts from the Schaeffler Group recommended the use of INA bearings from the X-life generation. The entire weight of the bridge is supported by one maintenance-free axial spherical plain bearing and the moment loads are supported by two radial spherical bearings from our large bearing range that are also maintenance-free.
A joint ball center point for the radial and axial bearing was selected to prevent constraining forces in the design. The inner ring bores were coated with ELGOGLIDE® to make mounting the bearings easier. The sliding surface was optimized for minimum loads in order to achieve a constant low friction coefficient.
