Effective Lubrication Makes all the Difference
Reference / GTS | 2017-02 | GTS 0115 | English

Effective Lubrication Makes all the Difference

The availability of the wide belt sanding machine is crucial for the completion of the timber planks in a hardwood sawmill. Repeatedly, though, premature bearing failure occurred at the tension and contact rolls due to lubricant breakdown. An important factor here was the maintenance requirements of the belt sander. For safety reasons, the machine should be lubricated manually at standstill exclusively. Schaeffler recommended changing over from manual to automatic lubrication with FAG CONCEPT8 as well as switching the lubricant to Arcanol MULTITOP.

Tapered Roller Bearings in X-life Design
Technical Product Information | 2017-02 | TPI 241 | 087546418-0000 | English

Tapered Roller Bearings in X-life Design

Features: Tapered roller bearings comprise solid inner and outer rings with tapered raceways and tapered rollers in a window cage. The classification and designation of tapered roller bearings is based on: ■ DIN 720 ■ ISO 355 ■ ANSI/ABMA metric ■ ANSI/ABMA inch. Open bearings are not self-retaining. As a result, the inner ring with the rollers and the cage can be mounted separately from the outer ring. Metric and inch size bearings are available.

Repair and Reconditioning of Rolling Bearings
Technical Product Information | 2017-02 | TPI 207 | 036893730-0000 | English

Repair and Reconditioning of Rolling Bearings

The characteristics and condition of rolling bearings have a significant influence on the production process. Preventive and condition-based maintenance measures are intended to maintain a consistently high level of plant availability. It is often the case that new rolling bearings are fitted although the existing bearings could be restored to as-new condition by means of appropriate reconditioning. In many cases, reconditioning of rolling bearings is more cost-effective than using new bearings.

Automatic Lubrication of a Large-Size Fan
Reference / GTS | 2017-02 | GTS 0116 | English

Automatic Lubrication of a Large-Size Fan

BMW Group relies on lubrication solutions of Schaeffler. A downtime of several hours for the drive-side bearings of a large fan was no longer acceptable for BMW. This was caused by overlubrication of the fan’s bearing positions, what subsequently resulted in failure of the bearings. Schaeffler and its sales partner Altmann recommended that the BMW Group use the FAG CONCEPT8. Since then all of the fan’s lubricating points are continuously and cleanly supplied with exactly the right quantity of lubricant using a single device.

Radial insert ball bearings and housing units are robust, ready-to-fit machine elements for the design of economical bearing arrangements. These products are available in many different series, have proven effective over many years and predominantly comprise a housing fitted with a radial insert ball bearing. The housing bore and the bearing outer ring have a spherical profile and are matched to each other. This allows the bearing ring in the housing to adapt to static angular misalignment of the shaft.
